Choosing the right hotel can make a big difference in your experience, especially if you're staying for several days, traveling with a companion, bringing a pet, or recovering from dental treatment.
As Ally, the Patient Manager, I help patients plan their dental visits in Los Algodones, including lodging, transportation, appointments, and other details that can make your trip easier. Over time, I've learned that there isn't one hotel that's perfect for everyone. Each one has something different to offer.
I've personally stayed at two of the hotels below, and I've helped many patients navigate their stay in town. I recently made a video comparing three hotel options in Los Algodones, but I wanted to create this guide with a little more detail to help you decide which of these three popular hotels may be right for you.
The Three Hotels Covered in This Guide
California Comfort & Suites
Hacienda Los Algodones
Cielito Lindo
Please note: This is not a sponsored hotel review. I'm sharing these options to help dental patients make an informed decision. Hotel prices, policies, deposits, pet fees, amenities, and availability can change, so always confirm current details directly with the hotel before booking.
Before Choosing Your Hotel
One of the biggest advantages of staying in Los Algodones is convenience.
All three hotels featured in this guide are within walking distance of dental offices, restaurants, shops, and pharmacies. All three also have reception/front-desk service and food available on-site or within their property or complex. For most visitors, you can walk around town and reach many of the places you need without a car.
Los Algodones is the safest border town in Mexico. And, as with any destination, I always recommend being aware of your surroundings and using normal travel precautions.
If you need a ride to your dental appointment or somewhere else in town, transportation can also be arranged depending on the hotel and service hours.
1. California Com/fort & Suites
My Personal Favorite of These Three

If you're looking for something that feels a little more modern and comfortable, California Comfort & Suites would be my first choice of these three. I've personally stayed here, so I can speak from my own experience. I found the bed more comfortable than at Hacienda, which can be especially important when you're coming to town for dental treatment and want to rest well.
The hotel offers several room types, including standard, executive, double, king, suite, and other larger options. Their website also offers a Dental Friendly Package for stays of three nights or more.
What I Like About California Comfort & Suites
Comfortable Rooms

If getting a good night's sleep is one of your priorities, this is the hotel I'd personally choose. The standard room is smaller than the other two hotels' single-bed rooms, but they have other options.
Pool and Outdoor Area
They have a pool and outdoor area where you can relax during your stay. This pool is smaller than the one at the Hacienda hotel, but many patients enjoy less crowd.
Restaurant
The hotel has Margarita Restaurant, which serves American and Mexican food, as well as options specifically designed for people who have had dental work.
And personally, I have to mention the margaritas. They are one of my favorite things there!
Coffee Shop
There is also a coffee shop at the hotel, and I personally love their

donuts. You have to try them. If you're someone who needs your
morning coffee, this is a nice convenience.

The hotel's website also says the coffee shop offers freshly roasted coffee and pastries, with room delivery available.
Transportation Within Town
One feature that can be particularly useful for dental patients is that California Comfort & Suites provides complimentary transportation within Los Algodones town limits during its stated service hours. According to the hotel's current information, guests can request transportation at the front desk during those hours.
Parking and Security
The hotel has parking and states that it has 24/7 security coverage throughout its facilities and parking areas.

What Makes It a Good Choice for Dental Patients?
If you're coming for dental treatment and want comfort, convenience, food, and coffee available on-site, this would be my personal pick.

2. Hacienda Los Algodones
Best for Spacious Rooms and a Traditional Atmosphere

Hacienda Los Algodones has a very different feel from California Comfort & Suites.
The rooms are more traditional in style, and one of the biggest advantages is the amount of space.
The hotel offers rooms with two queen beds and larger junior suites. It also has an outdoor pool, restaurant, secure parking, Wi-Fi, daily housekeeping, room service, and front-desk assistance. If you're traveling with a companion or simply prefer having more room, Hacienda may be worth considering.
The Outdoor Spaces Are a Nice Feature
One thing I like about Hacienda is the outdoor areas where guests can sit, relax, and socialize. If you're staying several days, this can be nice because you're not necessarily confined to your room. You may meet other travelers and have a place to sit and spend time outside. The hotel also has beautiful local artwork that adds to its traditional Mexican character.
The Pool Is Larger
Compared with California Comfort & Suites, Hacienda has a larger pool, which may be important if having a pool is high on your list.
The Restaurant
Hacienda has an on-site restaurant offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as room service during its stated hours. Personally, I wouldn't choose Hacienda specifically for the restaurant, but having one on-site is definitely convenient—especially if you're recovering from dental treatment and don't want to go far for food.
A Note About the Location
Hacienda is a little farther from the main center than the other two hotels.
As you approach the hotel, the surrounding area can look less developed because of the unpaved road near the property. Don't let that give you the wrong impression. The hotel itself is established, and I have no concern about the location simply because the road looks different.
For someone who wants to be right in the middle of town, however, another hotel may be more convenient.
Traveling With a Pet?
Hacienda is pet-friendly.
Its currently published policy allows dogs and cats up to 20 pounds per pet, with a listed $35
USD per-night pet fee.
Additional requirements and restrictions apply, so contact the hotel before booking if you're traveling with an animal.

3. Cielito Lindo (MediPlaza)
Best for Location and Convenience

If location is your biggest priority, Cielito Lindo is definitely one to consider.
The hotel is located inside MediPlaza Los Algodones, putting you right in the middle of dental offices, restaurants, cafés, pharmacies, and other services.
For dental patients, this can be extremely convenient.
You can walk out of the hotel and immediately be surrounded by dental offices and other businesses. MediPlaza is also located only a short walk from the border, making this a particularly convenient option for medical and dental tourists.
Spacious Rooms
Cielito Lindo offers several room options, including single, double, and junior rooms.
That can be especially useful if you're traveling with someone and want more space.
Food and Coffee Nearby
Because Cielito Lindo is located inside MediPlaza, you have a few food and beverage options nearby.
Mi Casa Es Su Casa serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, while My Daily Treat offers coffee and desserts.
I've had breakfast and lunch here, and the food is good. They have a large menu. There are also other food options near MediPlaza. So you don't have to travel far when you're hungry or looking for coffee.
Other Hotel Amenities
Cielito Lindo lists:
24-hour front desk
Daily housekeeping
Air conditioning
Wi-Fi
Flat-screen TV
Safe in every room
Room service
Parking available for an additional fee (underground)

Cielito Lindo Underground paid parking
Important If You're Traveling With a Pet
Cielito Lindo's current website states that no pets are allowed.
So if you're traveling with your dog or another pet, this would not be the option I'd recommend unless the hotel confirms that its policy has changed.

Important: Cash Deposits
One thing I recommend knowing before checking into any of these hotels is that all three hotels require a cash security deposit at check-in.
The amount can vary depending on the hotel. The deposit is generally refundable at check-out as long as there is no damage to the room and no additional charges.
Because hotel policies can change, I recommend confirming the current deposit amount directly with the hotel before booking or checking in.
It's a good idea to have some cash available specifically for this purpose.
A Tip From Your Patient Manager
After dental work, there may be some bleeding, especially after extractions or oral surgery.
Here's a small tip that can make your hotel stay easier:
Place a clean pillowcase or towel over your pillow before going to sleep.
This can help protect the hotel linens from blood or other stains and may help you avoid additional cleaning charges. It's a very simple thing, but it can make your recovery a little easier and avoid extra charges.
Important: Consider Your Check-In Time
One thing I recommend considering when choosing your hotel is what time you plan to arrive in Los Algodones.
This can be especially important if you're traveling for dental treatment. You may cross the border early in the morning, have a dental appointment scheduled before your hotel check-in time, or simply arrive in town several hours before your room is ready. Here are the currently published check-in times for the three hotels featured in this guide:
California Comfort & Suites
Check-in begins at 2:00 PM.
The currently published regular check-in window is from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. If you expect to arrive later, I recommend contacting the hotel ahead of time to make arrangements for a late arrival.
Hacienda Los Algodones
Check-in begins at 2:00 PM.
Late check-in may be available, but if you're planning to arrive later in the evening, it's a good idea to contact the hotel ahead of time and let them know your expected arrival time.
Cielito Lindo
Check-in begins at 2:00 PM.
The hotel's own website currently lists check-in beginning at 2:00 PM Arizona time.
My Recommendation
If you're going to arrive in Los Algodones before 2:00 PM, don't automatically assume your room will be ready when you arrive. You may want to plan to have breakfast or lunch, visit your dental office, run errands, or explore the area while you wait for check-in.
And if you're arriving later in the evening, contact the hotel ahead of time so they know when to expect you.
Check-in policies and times can change, so I always recommend confirming your arrival time directly with the hotel when you make your reservation.
Transportation During Your Stay
You don't necessarily need a car to stay in Los Algodones.
All three hotels are within walking distance of many dental offices, restaurants, pharmacies, and shops. California Comfort & Suites also offers complimentary transportation within Los Algodones during its stated service hours.
And if you need transportation to your dental appointment or somewhere else in town, I can also help arrange transportation for my patients.
My goal is to make your dental trip as easy and stress-free as possible.
So, Which Hotel Should You Choose?
There really isn't one answer for everyone.
California | Hacienda | Cielito Lindo | |
Modern feel | ⭐⭐⭐ | ⭐⭐ | ⭐⭐⭐ |
Large standard rooms | ⭐⭐ | ⭐⭐⭐ | ⭐⭐⭐ |
Pool | Yes | Larger | — |
Restaurant | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Coffee | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Pet friendly | Yes, confirm current policy | Yes | No |
Close to dental offices | Good | A little farther | Excellent |
Parking | Yes | Yes | Yes, fee |
Each of the three hotels offers various room sizes. In this comparison, I'm focusing solely on the standard room or single bed option.
California Comfort & Suites
Best for: Comfort, modern feel, food, coffee, pool, and convenience.
My personal choice: This is the one I'd choose if I were staying in town. I've personally stayed there and found the bed more comfortable, which is especially important to me when I'm traveling for several days.
Hacienda Los Algodones
Best for: Larger rooms, a larger pool, outdoor spaces, and a more traditional Mexican atmosphere.
This may also be a good choice if you're traveling with a pet or prefer having more space.
Cielito Lindo
Best for: Location and convenience.
Especially if you want to walk out of your hotel and immediately be close to dental offices, restaurants, pharmacies, and other services.
What Should You Consider Before Booking?
Before choosing your hotel, I recommend thinking about these questions:
How Many Days Are You Staying?
A one-night stay is very different from staying for a week while completing dental treatment.
Are You Traveling Alone or With Someone?
If you're traveling with a companion, a larger room may be worth considering.
Do You Need to Be Close to Your Dental Office?
If walking to dental offices is important, Cielito Lindo's location inside MediPlaza may be especially convenient.
Do You Want a Pool?
All three have different advantages, but Hacienda has the larger pool compared with California Comfort & Suites.
Are You Bringing a Pet?
Make sure you confirm the hotel's current pet policy before booking. Policies and fees can change.
Do You Want Food and Coffee Available Without Traveling Far?
This may be especially important after dental procedures when you don't want to travel far.
My Final Thoughts as a Patient Manager
When you're coming to Los Algodones for dental treatment, your hotel is more than just a place to sleep. You're potentially going to spend several days here, and depending on your treatment, you may want somewhere comfortable where you can rest, eat, and relax without having to travel far.
That's why I don't believe there is one "best" hotel for everyone.
I recommend choosing based on what matters most to you.
And if you're not sure, that's exactly the kind of thing I can help you with.
